Rain forests are magnificent and wonderful. They provide us with over 40% of our oxygen. About one third of the world’s land area is covered by rain forests and forests. The amazon jungle in South America is the largest rain forest on earth. The smallest rain forest in the world is the Bukit Nanas forest in Malaysia. There are two types of rain forest: tropical rain forests and temperate rain forests. Once they covered 14% of the earth, but they now cover about 6%, approximately the size of the USA plus Australia. The magnificent forests of Victoria and Tasmania are the oldest and tallest in the world. Today tropical rain forests and many of the animals who live in them are disappearing from the face of the globe. People are chopping down trees for paper and destroying rain forests for farmlands. This needs to stop.
